A RETURN TO WHAT REALLY MATTERS

A return to what really matters, APU Retreats was born from a quiet but persistent feeling – that something essential is missing in the modern world. In a time shaped by constant noise, endless expectations, and growing division, many people feel increasingly disconnected-from nature, from each other, and from themselves.

Juan Carlos Montero and Jessica Bernuy are the founders of APU Retreats, a project born not from a business plan, but from a shared conviction:

That life is shaped by energy, and that true creation begins when we align with it.

Juan Carlos, born on July 7, 1976, and Jessica, born on May 25, 1984, discovered in each other a deep resonance—a mutual belief that human experience is influenced by the rhythms of the universe, by planetary alignment, and by the invisible forces that shape intention, growth, and transformation. Over time, that belief evolved into a question they could no longer ignore: if we are part of a greater energetic order, why does modern life feel so disconnected from it?

As they observed a world increasingly driven by competition, accumulation, and the relentless pursuit of material success, they began to sense a growing imbalance. The pressure to achieve, to acquire, and to constantly strive seemed to come at the expense of something more essential—presence, purpose, and genuine fulfillment. Rather than accept this as the norm, they chose to step away from it.

Together, they set out on a journey across Peru, seeking not just landscapes, but answers. From the sacred valleys of Cusco and the ancient energy of Machu Picchu, to the quiet wisdom of Pisac and the towering stillness of Huaraz in the Andes, they immersed themselves in the mountains. They continued into the depths of the Amazon, exploring the living ecosystems of Pucallpa and Iquitos, where nature operates in raw, unfiltered harmony. Along the desert coast, in Ica, Paracas, Piura, and Tumbes, they witnessed yet another dimension of Peru’s elemental diversity.

With each place, the same questions surfaced with greater clarity: Has society been guiding us toward fulfillment, or away from it? Are people truly happy overworking themselves in pursuit of the next acquisition, or have we collectively accepted a version of success that leaves us disconnected and unfulfilled?

APU Retreats emerged as their answer.

More than a journey, it is a space for rebirth and transformation. Rooted in the belief that growth requires both release and renewal, each retreat is intentionally designed as a passage—from who you have been, into who you are becoming. Through a combination of immersive trekking, ceremonial practices, and guided introspection, participants are invited to confront patterns, let go of what no longer serves them, and step into a new state of clarity and alignment.

Drawing from the spiritual traditions of the Andes and the grounding intelligence of nature, Juan Carlos and Jessica created experiences that mirror the cycles of life itself—death, integration, and rebirth. The mountains challenge the body, the ceremonies open the heart, and the stillness of these sacred environments allows for deep internal shifts to take place.

At its core, APU Retreats is an invitation: to step out of the noise, to question inherited definitions of success, and to rediscover a way of living that is guided not by external pressure, but by internal alignment. It is not simply about escaping reality, but about returning to it renewed—with a clearer sense of purpose, a deeper connection to self, and the courage to live differently.

IT IS NOT SIMPLY ABOUT ESCAPING REALITY, BUT ABOUT RETURNING TO IT RENEWED—WITH A CLEARER SENSE OF PURPOSE, A DEEPER CONNECTION TO SELF, AND THE COURAGE TO LIVE DIFFERENTLY
